Where Astrology and Psychology Meet

Where Astrology and Psychology Meet
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
There is something that tends to hold true, regardless of the area of study. If a concept can be found across cultures and ages, it probably has some basis in fact. If, on the other hand, it cannot be found anywhere else, it’s probably just someone’s latest greatest idea, warranting a fair amount of skepticism.

One thing that can be found cross culturally and across time is the concept of the positioning of the stars in the heavens having a profound influence upon human characteristics and behavior.

In the history of most every culture, there is some form of astrology, a practice used to ascertain personality characteristics, based upon the position of the stars at the time of birth, and to predict future events.

These same systems often include reference to a person’s dominant element: water, air earth or fire. Some practices include wood and metal.

If these systems are indeed sound, and can divine basic information about our psychological makeup, can they be useful in understanding ourselves and others?
Is taking one’s sign and/or element into consideration valid, or is it simply imposing inaccurate stereotypical identities, in order to categorize people in predictable boxes?

There is a lot of conflicting information about the signs of the horoscope and what they indicate. Even if the original practice was valid, how do we know what to believe and how to apply it today?

Hopefully, our guest this hour can help us puzzle through the confusing, and often conflicting, information regarding astrology, the elements and how they relate to the human psyche.

With us is Debra Silverman, author of “The Missing Element.”  She has helped thousands of individuals achieve emotional health and wisdom based on their unique personality and the four elements: water, air earth, and fire.  Debra has developed a unique psychological-spiritual model, combining her expertise in Esoteric (soul-centered) Astrology with her extensive education in Psychology to help those going through major life changes.
